After writing a blog post some months ago about how to forward your GoDaddy e-mail address (mine is “info@missionbaymedia.com”) to your Gmail account, I received some follow up questions via e-mail regarding the use of GoDaddy e-mail addresses through the iPhone’s Mail App.
Firstly, let me say that YOU SHOULD download the Gmail app for your iPhone instead of using Apple Mail because it will make your life a lot easier. Gmail (and many Google products) is superior to Apple’s equivalent in every way that I’ve seen. However, GoDaddy’s e-mail client is horribly bulky and inconvenient and I will say that Apple Mail is superior to GoDaddy’s native e-mail client.
To use your GoDaddy, custom e-mail address or e-mail address associated with your new website or business, follow these steps and you should be E-mailing in no time:
1) Go to the Settings screen on your iPhone. You can get to this by tapping the little box with the gears inside that is labeled “Settings”.
2) Select “Mail,Contacts,Calendars” from the Settings screen.
3) Select “Add Account”.
4) Select “Other” since your GoDaddy e-mail address is unique.
5) Select “Add Mail Account”
6) Fill in the details that you are prompted with. Your “Name” will be the name people see in their Inbox when you e-mail them. You e-mail address will be your GoDaddy e-mail address. Mine would be “info@missionbaymedia.com”. Password is the password you specified when setting up the e-mail account through GoDaddy. Once you have your personal info filled out, tap “Next”.
7) You will then see two tabs to choose from, “IMAP” and “POP”. I highly recommend using POP as it is easier to deal with. Once selected, fill in the details and fields as follows:
- Hostname: pop.secureserver.net (this is just what you have to use)
- User Name: Your full GoDaddy e-mail address. Mine would be “info@missionbaymedia.com”.
- Password: The password you defined when setting up your e-mail account.
8) You will then be prompted to fill out SMTP (Outgoing Mail Server) settings. Fill in the fields as follows:
- Hostname: smtpout.secureserver.net (this is just what you have to use)
- User Name: Your full GoDaddy e-mail address. Mine would be “info@missionbaymedia.com”.
- Password: The password you defined when setting up your e-mail account. 9) Hit “Save” and you’re done! You should be able to send and receive e-mails from your Apple Mail app from now on.
Please note that you should use EITHER Apple Mail OR Google Gmail as your primary E-mail client. By this I mean you are able to send and receive e-mails from all of your e-mail addresses from the same place…i.e. either Gmail or Apple Mail. Trying to do both is going to give you a headache and get you even more confused. If you are already importing and sending mail from your GoDaddy e-mail addresses with Gmail, simply download the Gmail App for your iPhone.
